Obituary of James H. Burns

Deacon James H. Burns,87, of Collegeville, died on July 7, 2015 at Phoenixville Hospital. Deacon Burns was born on November 1, 1927 in Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania, a son of the late James and Mary (McGill) Burns. He was 87 years of age. Deacon Burns served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948 and from 1952 to 1957. He was in Germany and Korea and attained the rank of Captain. He graduated from Temple University in 1952. Deacon Burns was a Risk Manager for Rollins International, Inc. in Wilmington Delaware. After his retirement in 1990, he studied and was ordained as a Deacon of the Catholic Church in 1994. Deacon Burns had been a member of St. Eleanor Catholic Church in Collegeville since 1955 and his activities centered around the church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and had attained the 4th Degree. He also enjoyed gardening in his spare time. Deacon Burns was the husband of Mary (Smith) Burns for 62 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; James F. (Cynthia) of Souderton, Kevin C. (Linda) of Collegeville, Sharon M. (Kevin) of Sellersville, Shawn G. (Sandra) of Eagleville, Michael K. (Cheryl) of Pottstown, and Mary Megan of Royersford. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters; Patricia and Virginia. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass Friday, July 10, 11 AM at St. Eleanor Catholic Church, 6th Ave & Locust St. Collegeville. Officiating will be Monsignor Michael McCulken, pastor of Saint Eleanor’s. The Reception of the Body will be at 9 AM on Friday at the church, followed by a viewing until 10:45 AM. Interment will be in the Limerick Garden of Memories. Condolences may be expressed at www.msrfh.com. Arrangements are by the Moore, Snear, & Ruggiero Funeral Home, Trappe.
